Lightning Protection
B.L.L. Associates Ltd. offers design and installations on all types of new buildings at the planning stage as well as upgrading or refurbishment of systems already in place. All BLL engineers are fully competent and CSCS skilled to comply with all regulations set out within the HSE.
We undertake both risk assessments and lightning protection systems to meet the stipulations in BSEN 62305 – testing and maintaining the systems annually.
Testing, Inspection & Maintenance
BSEN 62305 stipulates that a lightning protection system should be visually inspected and its earth termination network tested on an annual basis to ensure that it protects the building and the people and equipment within it, whenever it is called upon to do so.
We carry out a a full risk assessment, offer advice and recommendations on remedial works and upgrading required.
Our team of fully trained test engineers operating throughout the UK, we offer a range of maintenance and testing packages – 1,3 and 5 year annual contracts.
Earthing
The earthing system of a building within a lightning and surge protection system, captures and disperses the lightning currents to ground and is key in the operation of surge protection.
Lightning protection earthing systems use a wide range of materials to achieve a maximum resistance level of 10 ohms or less to adhere to BS 7430: Earthing.
We determine soil resistivity, improve earthing design and measure how the system is performing. Our modern earthing techniques meet all the relevant British & international standards, including BS 7430:1998 Code of Practice for Earthing and IEEE80-2000 Guide for Safety in AC Substation Grounding.

Surge Protection
Surge protection for buildings is required to comply with the recommendations of BSEN 62305 & BS7661. We complete a full risk assessment to determine the level of protection we recommend.
We offer earthing for standby generators, LV and HV supply systems, transformers and telecommunication systems. Your electronic and electrical systems are essential to your business, but these systems are a risk from electrical surges. These high magnitude over-voltages are from both direct lightning strikes, as well as switching of inductive/capacitive loads inside buildings.
Transient over-voltages
Transient over-voltages can damage electrical and electronic systems, disrupt services causing sometimes high repair costs and down time for the business.
BSEN 62305 stipulates that surge protection must be included as part of your lightning protection system to minimise damage to your premises and incoming services.
